7. Reflect on the ending of The Circuit. Would it have been better for the family to stay in California or was their life in Mexico happier? Give examples from the book to support your answer.
They never mentioned a desire to go back, so one could only assume that they were happier in California. Even though it was difficult for the children in school because of the language barrier, they didn’t seem to complain; they only worked harder. The father and mother also worked hard and didn’t seem to complain. I think of "The Jungle" and the misery the family went through as immigrants. There were times they regretted coming to America, but I don’t see that regret in "The Circuit."

I am a fifth grade teacher in Lolo, Montana. I graduated from the University of Montana in 2004 with a Bachelors in Elementary Education and a literacy endorsement. I earned my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Montana in 2009.
