Discussion Question #5
5. Responsibility is the active role of morality; Doing what I should do, doing what I say I will do, doing what is best for everybody; especially doing the one thing I should be doing right now. Recall an event from the text involving Panchito that refutes this definition of responsibility.

In “Soledad” Francisco had the responsibility of caring for his younger brother, but he was distracted by what he thought was a more important responsibility of preparing himself to pick cotton. He wasn’t content with the responsibility set before him for that time period in his life.
ReplyDeleteInitially, even though Panchito wanted Manuelito to play Kick the can, he didn't stand up to Carlos to make it happen. After witnesses Gabriel's confrontation with the contratista(p.76) and his determination to hold on to his dignity, Panchito does take a stand on Manuelito's behalf.
